Description

“Spring rhythm” shows a meadow of tulips against an evening sky. The flowers grow to different heights, and it is that uneven line of heads that gives the piece its sense of rhythm.

What the picture shows

The tulips run warm: red, crimson, orange streaked with yellow, lilac and violet. Some are still tightly closed, others have opened to show their dark centres. The stems are long and green, with narrow leaves at the base. The sky behind them is painted in brushstrokes — an orange sunset near the horizon, pink and blue above it, and white downy blossoms scattered across the top. Beadwork covers almost the whole canvas, and the thirty-two shades are needed for the transitions inside each single flower.
