Description

“Petal dream” shows a large butterfly settled on a pink chrysanthemum. The wings are closed, the slim body almost merges with the stem, and the whole scene runs on soft watercolour tones with no hard contrasts.

What the picture shows

The wings are white and cream with black spots along the edge, turning bright pink closer to the body. The flower below is built from dozens of narrow petals, from pale pink on the outside to deep crimson at the heart. The antennae and the body are laid as a single line of dark beads, which keeps the silhouette crisp. The pale background with its faint ornament and drips stays as print on the canvas, so the stitched wings and petals stand out above it.
