Description

“Spring commotion” shows two birds among peonies in full bloom: a greenish-yellow songbird lifting off with its wings spread, and a blue one with a rust-coloured breast tucked lower in the foliage. The turquoise background keeps the whole scene bright and loud, the way spring is.

What the picture shows

The composition rests on three large pink peonies that run from a nearly white centre to a deep crimson petal edge. Around them lie narrow leaves and sharp orange, blue and lime blossoms. The plumage is worked in small stitches across several shades, so the wings read as striped and in motion. Beadwork covers the flowers, the birds and the leaves, while the flat turquoise field stays as print on the canvas — that contrast is what makes the stitched part look raised.
