Description

“Air adventures” shows a hot-air balloon drifting among the clouds in a night sky. The piece is square and decorative: everything in it, clouds and stars alike, is assembled from round curls.

What the picture shows

The envelope of the balloon is divided into segments: grey-violet panels alternate with coppery gold inserts, and a large sun with rays and a round heart is laid out at the centre. Strands of beads ending in drops hang down from the envelope, and beneath them sit a golden hoop and a woven basket on fine lines. The clouds to the left and right are made of spirals of different sizes in blue, cream and steel grey, so they look like curls of wool. Golden four-pointed stars are scattered across the sky, and a blue crescent moon glows at the top right. The background is a blurred blue sky that stays as print on the artist canvas, and all the beadwork rests on the balloon, the clouds and the stars. The balloon sits slightly above centre, so the space left beneath it reads as altitude.
