Description

“Between day and night” is a narrow panel in which night and day live side by side: a dark moon with rays above the clouds and a golden sun rising over turquoise waves.

What the picture shows

One part is taken up by a deep blue sky with stars, thin bands of cloud and a moon beaded in black and brown, with sharp rust-coloured rays radiating from it. Next comes a belt of dense white clouds with grey-blue shadows, worked in small curls. Beyond them the sun rises: a yellow heart with a white core and long orange and reddish rays that run across the full width of the canvas. Further on are turquoise and emerald waves laid in even rows, with white crests and threads of bugle beads that give the water its shine. Tropical leaves and ferns in dark green and blue frame the composition at both ends. The background stays as print, while the beadwork follows the sun and moon, the clouds, the waves and the foliage.
