Description

“A woodland melody” shows a decorative bird with an open crest among ferns and orange berries. The design is stylised, with a soft muted palette and the warm mood of a forest tale.

What the picture shows

The bird sits almost at the centre: its crest opens like a fan, every feather ending in a dark drop with a white rim, and its beak is sharp and yellow. Breast and wings are worked in coral pink, ochre and dark brown beads, with a pattern of pale overlapping feathers laid across the wing. The tail below is decorated with medallions built from tiny rounds. Long green fern fronds spread out to the left and right, beaded in rows along each midrib, and clusters of orange berries with round beads at their centres hang between them. At the bottom left two dark beetles with speckled backs are visible. The background is a muted mint with a printed leaf pattern that is deliberately left unstitched and works as a calm backing. The colours throughout are muted, none of them jumping forward, so the subject rests on drawing rather than on brightness.
