Description

“At depth” shows a betta fish with lavish, near-transparent fins gliding through turquoise water. Pink and blue meet almost half and half here, and that is what makes the piece feel festive.

What the picture shows

The body is worked in small beads laid in rows that follow its shape: the head is almost white with pink gills, the back turns blue and violet, and the belly lightens again. The eye is large and black with a white glint. The fins and tail spread out in long ribbons, each strung as its own chain of beads, so they really do resemble fabric swaying in water. Pink rosettes of tiny flowers and round beads are set among them and add volume. The background is blurred turquoise-green water with pale washes, small bubbles and pink patches; it stays as print on the artist canvas, and the stitched fins read especially easily against it because the beads sit on the fish alone.
