Main Bead Embroidery Kit There behind the waterfall
Description
“There behind the waterfall” is a night landscape in a post-impressionist spirit: an enormous yellow light above, a swirling blue sky, and a turbulent stream running down from the mountains straight towards the viewer.
What the picture shows
The upper third is taken up by the light source with yellow rays radiating out, worked in short rows from the centre. Beside it, blue and turquoise spirals of stars and ranks of wavy clouds turn across the sky. Lower down, dark hills and the sharp silhouettes of firs appear, with a band of green between them. The rest of the canvas belongs to water: the cascade falls in steps, beaded from deep blue and ultramarine through to pale blue and white on the crests of foam. Tufts of golden stems stand along the banks, laid in long bugle beads, giving straight sharp strokes where everything else is rounded. Every area is stitched in separate rows like brushstrokes, so the surface turns out textured, close to oil paint, with the printed ground showing only in the narrow gaps between them. The colours are never blended but set side by side as clean patches — blue next to green, yellow next to blue.
