Description

“Flower honey” shows a bee flying towards a honeycomb while blue, violet and lilac flowers open all around it. The background is light, with a faint botanical drawing, so all the attention goes to the insect and the colour.

What the picture shows

At the centre is a large bee: a body striped in black and yellow, a thorax covered in golden-brown beads, thin legs and antennae, and wings left almost transparent and only outlined. Behind it sits a hexagon of honeycomb with amber and orange honey running down in drops. Top left there is a dense head of blue blossom resembling a hydrangea, and on the right violet spheres and green spikes on long stems. Below, large cornflower-blue and lilac blooms open out, their yellow-and-white centres worked in the smallest beads. The background is pale canvas with a fine graphic outline of herbs, and it is deliberately left as print: beads sit only on the flowers, the bee and the honey, which is why the colour glows against the white.
