Description

“The look of a witch” is a cat's face built out of ornament: scrolls, spirals and feathered lines instead of fur, with two large amber eyes at the centre.

What the picture shows

The eyes run from honey to dark copper, with a narrow black pupil and a thin pale rim — they are what holds your attention. The nose is smooth and pinkish beige, and long whiskers spread from it in separate lines of beads. Everything else is pattern: large copper feathers rise above the eyes, a silver-blue monogram winds between them, and cheeks and forehead are covered with small spirals. Lower down the ornament leaves the face altogether and turns into symmetrical curls with little flowers. The dark graphite canvas is left unbeaded, so copper and silver glow on it and the cat looks forged out of metal. The face fills the canvas and is cropped at the edges, so the cat feels very close, as if looking straight at the viewer.
