Description

“Spring in love” shows a girl with long red hair and a flower crown holding an armful of blooms — the mood of the first warm days, when everything opens at once.

What the picture shows

Her face is calm and her eyes are closed; the hair moves in soft steps from copper to light gold. In her arms is a dense bouquet: pink and burgundy peonies, white and yellow daisies, small blue flowers and greenery. The most interesting part is below: the dark green skirt turns into a flowering meadow — a sunflower, poppies, bellflowers, ferns, field grasses and berries, every one its own shape and colour. Above are a pale sky, two white birds in flight and round treetops on either side. The background stays as print on the canvas while the beads cover the figure, the bouquet and the flowers of the skirt, so those stand out in relief. The green bodice and the red of the hair hold the centre of the composition, and the rest of the picture is built around them.
