Description

“Cornflowers in the field” is a wide panorama of a meadow where lilac-pink flower heads sway on tall thin stems. The mood is a windy day in the grass, with everything around slightly blurred.

What the picture shows

The format is stretched horizontally and the flowers are set across it at different heights, as if the viewer were standing right in the grass. The heads are round and feathery: each is built from dozens of short rays worked from deep violet and raspberry at the core to pale lilac at the tips. Green star-shaped umbels that have not opened yet grow beside them, with small white blossoms scattered between the stems. The stems are long and straight, laid in several greens, from fresh grass to almost yellowish near the bottom. The ground is a soft wash moving from greyish pink at the top to green near the earth, with blurred silhouettes of grasses. It stays as print on the canvas, while beadwork covers only the flowers, stems and leaves.
