Description

“The three dwarfs” shows three small gnomes in tall caps standing on a snowy hill under the stars. The mood of a children's Christmas story: a blue night, quiet snow and three funny figures in the middle of it.

What the picture shows

The ground is a saturated blue winter sky with a thin white crescent moon on the left and a scatter of snowflakes and stars. The gnomes share the same build but differ in colour: red cap and red coat on the left, a green cap with white spots in the middle, a red and white striped cap on the right. The beards are long and thick, worked in white beads, and only round pink noses show beneath the caps. They stand on white snow with long blue shadows falling below them. Blue fir trees, laden with snow, grow on either side, and a small house sits on a hill in the distance. The blue sky and the far landscape stay as print on the canvas, while beadwork covers the gnomes, the snow, the firs, the moon and the snowflakes.
