Description

“Wings of inspiration” is a guardian bird with a large golden wing set inside a dense flower wreath, in the spirit of Petrykivka painting. The mood is festive and handmade, like the lid of a painted chest.

What the picture shows

The ground is a deep emerald turquoise, and the whole composition glows against it. The bird is turned in profile, its body and wing worked in cream, gold and sand beads, with two large pink rosettes laid across the wing. The tail flows into a broad embroidered cloth with red ornament and a striped border. Flowers crowd around the bird: large pink and crimson blooms, red poppies, small white bells, berries, blue and green leaves, with two little birds among them and gold dots scattered across the whole field. The widest palette in the kit, 33 colours, does its work here: every petal carries its own gradation. The dark ground stays as print on the canvas, while beadwork covers the bird, the wreath and the ornament almost solidly.
