Description

“Christmas motif” is a winter wreath of snowy firs and little houses on a deep blue ground, with the words Season's Greetings across it. The mood of a Christmas card: quiet, dark and thoroughly festive.

What the picture shows

The wreath is built from blue and silver fir trees, white snow-laden branches and golden ears of grain. Below it stand three small houses with warm light in the windows — yellow rectangles glowing in the blue night. Inside the wreath, near the top, the greeting is spelled out in gold letters, with round ornaments and gold star-shaped snowflakes hanging beside it. Snowflakes of different sizes are scattered across the whole ground: large ones worked in blue and white beads, and fine white dots between them. Each large snowflake has its own arrangement of rays, so no two in the picture repeat. The saturated blue field stays as print, while beadwork covers the wreath, the houses, the lettering and the snowflakes — which is why the piece glows from within like a winter shop window.
