Description

“Amber flight” shows a large amber-orange butterfly with open wings and a silvery insect above it. The mood is a clear summer day, the air full of drifting motes of light.

What the picture shows

The butterfly sits on the diagonal and takes up almost the whole lower part of the canvas. The wings run from deep russet orange near the body to honey and almost yellow at the edges, crossed by black veins and rows of small white dots along the contour. Purple oval stones are set along the wings — the strongest accents in the piece. The second insect above is paler: silvery blue wings with turquoise and green flecks and long thin antennae. Circles of various sizes are scattered around — clear, amber, ochre — and some of them are beaded and stone-set while others stay as print. The blurred watercolour ground, shifting between green, grey and violet, also stays as print on the canvas.
