Description

“Always in the heart” is a large heart built from flowers: the upper part blue, the lower part golden yellow. The mood is tender and firm at once — about something you carry with you all the time.

What the picture shows

The heart fills almost the whole canvas and is packed solid, with no gaps. Above, on a blue watercolour base, gather cornflowers, blue roses with spiralled hearts, chicory, bellflowers and iris, from deep ultramarine to pale sky. The narrowing lower part rests on yellow: sunflowers with black centres, marigolds, small star-shaped blooms and gold foliage in honey and ochre. Blue and ochre butterflies cross the heart, and two bees sit near the dividing line. The background is white with a fine outline drawing of peonies and leaves — blue above, gold below; that pattern stays as print on the canvas. Beadwork covers only the flowers inside the heart, so the shape reads clearly and stands proud of the surface.
