Description

“Black chrysanthemum” is a graphic piece on a dark canvas where the flower emerges from a shower of gold. Only five bead colours, and the effect is almost jewellery-like.

What the picture shows

A large chrysanthemum opens on the right: its narrow petals are outlined in white pearl beads and curl in a spiral towards the heart. A long white line runs from it like a stem and crosses the canvas diagonally. The upper part is filled with a dense scatter of gold, bronze and deep amber beads that thins out towards the middle, as if pollen were settling. Along the bottom, golden rosettes of concentric circles are stitched side by side like small blossoms. The dark graphite ground and several large leaves are left unbeaded — they work as black silhouettes against which the gold and the pearl read at their brightest. The composition is diagonal: the heavy gold corner at the top is balanced by the dense carpet of rosettes below, while the middle stays dark and empty.
