Description

“At a lake” is an evening view of a mountain lake with the sunset caught in the water. A quiet piece about the moment when the sky still burns and the forest has already gone dark.

What the picture shows

The upper part is a peach and orange sky with long lilac clouds, and it stays as print on the canvas. Below it runs a deep violet ridge, and under that a wall of forest: dense firs in blue, emerald and near black beads, with golden yellow autumn trees flaring between them. The lower half is the mirror of the lake, where the same forest returns in iridescent turquoise and blue, and dark fir silhouettes with rust-coloured accents close the water at the bottom. The beadwork covers the forest, the ridge and the reflection, so all the glitter of the glass falls on water and needles while the soft watercolour sky stays matte — that contrast holds the whole picture together.
