Description

“Cup of happiness” shows a large painted cup with a many-coloured bouquet growing out of it and a blue bird above. The work is decorative, in a folk key close to Petrykivka painting.

What the picture shows

The background is dark grey, and against it the whole colour range sounds very bright. A footed cup stands at the bottom: its sides are divided into bands of violet, yellow, red and gold, a red heart is stitched at the centre, and the handle and rim are trimmed with fine ornament. A bouquet grows out of the cup: large violet flowers with yellow wheel-shaped hearts, red and yellow daisies, small lilac florets, red berries on thin twigs and long toothed leaves in every shade of green. A turquoise-blue bird flies at the upper right with its tail spread. The flowers are built as round rosettes of fine beads, so the surface comes out in relief. Twenty bead colours are needed for exactly this variegation: the bouquet holds cool violet and warm orange alike.
