Description

“Love in the house” is a lettered blessing on a black ground, framed by little houses and green wreaths. The work is made in the spirit of a chalkboard sign for the home.

What the picture shows

Across the whole canvas, white beads spell out the phrase In our Home let Love abide & Bless all those who step Inside. The letters are set in different ways: some printed and rounded, others handwritten with long flourishes, and the word INSIDE sits in a green frame at the bottom. Four small gable-roofed houses stand in the corners — blue, lilac-pink, red and green-turquoise — each with stitched windows, doors and a chimney. Green leaf wreaths, small pink flowers and white dots are scattered between the words. The dark grey background stays as print, which is why the lettering reads like real chalk on slate. Sixteen bead colours supply the white, the green, the pink and the several shades for roofs and walls. The lettering fills nearly the whole canvas and reads from several steps away, so the piece works as a sign in its own right. The roofs of the houses are built from fine rows of beads, which makes the tiling look raised.
