Description

“White magic” is an old lantern wrapped in white flowers, with dragonflies circling around it. The mood is cool and fairy-tale, held in a blue and turquoise range.

What the picture shows

The background is watercolour: turquoise at the top, deeper blue through the middle, almost white below like mist. A lantern hangs on a chain at the centre, its faceted glass panes framed in silver and blue beads, with a lilac flame glowing inside. Flowers wind over and around it — white and cream star-shaped blooms, dark blue leaves, curling tendrils and shoots that trail below the lantern itself. Five dragonflies fly around it, each with translucent white wings veined in beads and a blue body. Small pale dots and stars are scattered across the whole canvas. Twenty-one bead colours are needed for the run from cool white to ink blue; the large beads and bicones add separate bright highlights on the lantern and the flowers.
