Description

“Daisy season” is a white daisy set against a large lace rosette in blue. The work is light and cool, built on the pairing of a living flower with ornament.

What the picture shows

The background is watercolour white and blue, with faint frost patterns in the corners. Behind the flower opens a large round rosette that looks like a lace doily: pointed ray-petals, openwork scrolls inside and fine white beads along the contours. It is worked in blue and silvery white beads, so it recalls a paper cut-out or a pattern of ice. The daisy itself lies over it: long white petals laid in separate stitches and a dense bright yellow heart. Two buds sway below on green stems, each with its own smaller blue rosette behind it. Thirteen bead colours are enough because the palette is deliberately narrow: white, blue, green and a single patch of yellow. The background stays as print on the canvas: the stitching runs only over the rosettes, the flower and the stems, so the ornament stands clearly above the watercolour surface. The stems are filled with several greens, from dark to almost lime.
