Description

“Christmas tale” shows a snowy hill with a little house floating in the night sky like a small planet of its own. The mood is quiet, almost a lullaby.

What the picture shows

The background is a deep grey blue scattered with small white and gold stars. At the centre is a large pale sphere of snow with a soft glow around its rim. A house stands on it with a red roof, green shutters and lit windows; a red sleigh rests beside it, and two tall firs grow on the left, one gold, one white and silvery. Further down the slope a golden bush or tree opens up like a burst of light. The snow on the sphere is worked in white and cream beads of varying brightness, so the surface looks soft and uneven. From the lower edge of the sphere thin threads hang down carrying white snowflakes and gold and red stars — these are what turn the landscape into a hanging ornament. Twenty bead colours work mostly on the snow, which holds both cool blue and warm golden transitions.
