Description

“New year wreath” is a festive wreath on a gold chain, gathered from snowflakes, baubles and flowers. Below it the words MERRY CHRISTMAS are set out in gold letters.

What the picture shows

The background is dark grey, almost slate, and against it the wreath reads like a decoration hung on a wall. The ring is assembled from different elements: large openwork snowflakes in gold and white, round baubles in turquoise, emerald and mint, a deep cherry rose at the top, cream-white flowers on the left, and small-leaved sprigs between them. At the bottom the ring breaks up into loose snowflakes and gold dots, as if part of the trimming were drifting off it. The chain it hangs from runs vertically to the top edge of the canvas. Twenty-five bead colours separate the cool silver of the snowflakes from the warm gold; the added microbeads, crystal bicones, rondelles, hemispheres and pearls make the surface uneven, with real highlights. The letters of the greeting are set widely spaced in fine gold beads, so they never pull attention away from the wreath. The background stays as print — beadwork covers only the wreath, the chain and the lettering.
