Main Bead Embroidery Kit Money fish
Description
“Money fish” shows a golden koi woven out of lace-like patterns on a dark ground strewn with chrysanthemums. An Eastern symbol of prosperity, treated in a highly decorative way.
What the picture shows
The fish fills almost the whole canvas and turns along the diagonal: body, fins and generous tail are built from openwork scrolls, floral rosettes and netting, worked in gold, amber, copper and pale yellow beads. The stitching follows contours rather than filling the shape solidly, so the dark base shows through the pattern — that is exactly what creates the lace effect. The background is deep blue-graphite, printed with white and silver chrysanthemums and waves that are left unstitched. Nine large Preciosa No. 6 beads and ten glass rondelles in two shapes add raised accents, and four colours of microbeads make it possible to follow the finest lines of the pattern. The composition is diagonal: the fish's head at the lower right, the tail rising into the upper left corner, and the fins reaching almost past the edges of the canvas.
