Description

“Enlightenment” shows a pale blue lotus beneath a golden flame and an Om sign on a starry sky. A calm, meditative subject in blue and turquoise.

What the picture shows

An open lotus flower sits at the centre: the petals are worked in white, icy blue and silver beads, with darker veining towards the base. A golden ornament shaped like tongues of flame rises above the flower, and inside it stands the Om sign, laid in the same gold beads. The background is deep blue, shifting into turquoise and green towards the bottom, and scattered with small white stars and two pale circles like moons. The background stays as print on the canvas, while the beads are concentrated on the lotus, the flame and the stars, which is why they glow against the matte surface. Preciosa No. 13 microbeads make up the smallest star points and the fine contours. The composition is drawn upwards: from the green strip at the bottom through the lotus to the very tip of the flame, so the eye travels from bottom to top.
