Description

“Honey plant” shows a bee on a honeycomb shaped into a heart and framed with daisies. A warm, summery piece on a grey ground.

What the picture shows

The heart is built from honey-coloured hexagons, and nearly every cell holds a drop of honey. Around its outline open white daisies with amber centres and dark green leaves stitched one by one. The bee sits at the centre: the body is banded in black and gold, worked in amber, brown and black beads, while the wings are translucent and pearly, laid in white and pale blue. Below, the heart drips with honey and small white blossoms. The honeycomb stays as print on the canvas, so the beads do their work where volume is needed: on the flowers, the wings and the drops. Twenty-five bead colours carry the smooth run from near white to deep amber. The heart is a clean symmetrical shape, and the flower frame is wider at the top and narrows down towards the point. The grey canvas around it is left empty, so the heart reads instantly.
