Main Bead Embroidery Kit Bai-hu (White tiger)
Description
“Bai-hu (White tiger)” places a white tiger from Eastern mythology against a red sun and peony-shaped clouds. The piece is graphic and high-contrast: almost everything rests on three colours — white, red and grey.
What the picture shows
At the centre is the tiger's face, worked in white, silver and grey beads with crisp black stripes; the eyes and nose are dark, and a full white ruff of fur lies around the muzzle. A white flame rises above the head, a large red circle of sun opens behind it, and red peonies bloom to either side, stitched in rows of small petals. Below sit another large red flower and white cloud scrolls in the Eastern manner. The red splashes across the ground stay as print on the canvas; the beads go onto the tiger, the flowers and the sun, so the figure stands out noticeably from the matte surface. Seven colours of Preciosa No. 13 microbeads go into the finest details of the face and the clouds. The composition is drawn upwards, with every element gathered around the central vertical axis.
