Main Bead Embroidery Kit Sleepless

“Sleepless” shows an enormous full moon with the black silhouette of a city rising in front of it. A graphic subject in just a few colours: grey, white and black.

What the picture shows

The moon fills almost the entire canvas: its disc is worked in white, cream and pale blue beads with small warm flecks that read as craters. Against it stands an unbroken line of towers of different heights, stitched in black beads, with single white windows lit in their walls. Towards the bottom the buildings break up into separate beads and the edge of the city seems to drip away. The grey background stays as print on the canvas. The palette is extremely restrained, only seven bead colours, so the whole piece rests on the contrast between the pale disc and the black skyline. The disc of the moon is not perfectly even: paler and slightly darker patches run across it, worked in beads of different shades. The skyline is symmetrical about the centre, with two taller groups of towers at the edges and lower buildings in between.
