Description

“Delicate flowers” is a generous garden bouquet built from white, peach, pink and red blooms. The background is blurred, almost watercolour, so all the attention goes to the flowers.

What the picture shows

At the centre are large white and cream flowers with yellow hearts; around them peach and orange petals open up, along with pink and red buds on slender stems. The bouquet is framed by silvery spikelets and small green leaves that radiate outwards like rays. Twenty-seven bead colours give smooth transitions inside every petal, from near white to coral and wine red. The pale blue and beige background stays as print on the canvas — the beadwork covers only the bouquet, so it stands out from the matte surface almost in relief. The bouquet is gathered into a dense half-circle: the leaves at the bottom are darker and thicker, while towards the top the flowers lighten and open wider. Neither stems nor vase are shown — the bouquet seems to float in the middle of the canvas.
