Description

“Special day” shows a bride in a white lace dress holding a large wedding bouquet. Her face is not shown: all the attention goes to the flowers and to the hands that hold them.

What the picture shows

The bouquet is built from pink proteas with pointed petals, pale pink roses, white blossoms with yellow centres and small red berries. Between them lie turquoise and blue sprigs with round berries and dark green feathery leaves — it is that cool turquoise that makes the bouquet unusual. The flowers are beaded densely, row against row, so every petal has its own relief, while glass rondelles and drops light up the centres. The lace of the bodice and a silver pendant at the neckline are stitched as well. The background — the blurred green of a garden — stays as print on the artist canvas, so the bouquet steps forward as in a wedding photograph with shallow depth of field. The top of the dress and the hands stay mostly as print, so nearly all the beadwork goes into the bouquet.
