Description

“Long journeys” is a large feather on a dark ground whose tip breaks apart into small fragments that look like birds in flight. The composition is simple, and the idea of movement and travel comes across clearly.

What the picture shows

The feather is beaded in pink, crimson and violet with flecks of yellow, green and pale blue, and the shaft runs dark and straight. The barbs are laid in short slanted stitches, so the feather looks light and slightly ruffled. Above it and to the right, detached pieces in the same colours fly off — from a distance they truly read as a flock moving away. Small coloured snowflakes and stars are scattered around them. The dark grey, nearly black background stays as print on the artist canvas, and against it every bright bead glows on its own. The snowflakes around it come in several colours — pink, pale blue, green — picking up the same palette as the feather.
