Description

“Sakura blossom” is a narrow vertical piece in pink: a decorative column with interlaced ornament on the left, sakura branches in flower on the right. The pairing is unusual — ribbon knotwork and Japanese blossom in one composition.

What the picture shows

The flowers are beaded in white and cream with golden and lilac centres, the petals small and gathered into clusters. The branches are stitched in brown and bronze — thin, curved, with tiny green leaves between the blossoms. On the left, a tall elongated frame of interlaced dark bronze ornament runs the full height, with a green mounted stone glowing at its middle. The pink background shifts from saturated crimson to almost white, with fine light spatters, and stays as print on the artist canvas — which is what makes the beaded flowers look so raised against it. The knotwork of the column repeats at the top and at the bottom, keeping the narrow composition in balance.
