Description

“Light pink” is a generous bouquet where pink lilies stand next to tall lilac and blue spikes. The composition is built from the bottom up: heavy flowers below, light spires and sprigs above.

What the picture shows

The lilies are beaded in pink and cream with yellow centres and fine dark speckles on the petals, each petal worked in rows that follow its shape. Around them rise violet and blue panicles that recall lupins and delphiniums, along with small white and pale blue florets, and dense green foliage fills the lower part. The palette runs from pale pink to deep violet and ultramarine, and those cool notes keep the bouquet from turning sweet. The background — light watercolour with pink and blue washes — stays as print on the canvas, so the bouquet looks as if it were set in misty morning light. The largest lily stands at the centre and sets the scale for the whole bouquet, with the other flowers arranged around it.
