Description

“Fluff” is a long panorama of dandelion clocks: a whole row of light, transparent spheres on thin stems, with seeds already breaking away and flying upwards. The mood is summery and almost weightless.

What the picture shows

The spheres are beaded in blue, indigo, turquoise and beige — not solidly, but in rays from the centre, so the watercolour ground shows through and they really do look transparent. The stems are thin and grey-blue at different heights, with small flying parachutes scattered between them. The background — white and blue watercolour with runs and spatters — stays as print on the artist canvas. The glass rondelles work as large drops of dew among the seeds and catch the light. The 600×240 mm format is very elongated, and that is what turns a simple subject into a ribbon you read from left to right. The row of dandelions is not even: some heads stand taller, others lean aside, which keeps the long ribbon from looking mechanical.
