Main Bead Embroidery Kit Hanami
Description
“Hanami” is a blossoming sakura against Mount Fuji, named after the Japanese custom of admiring the blossom. The tree is old, its trunk twisted, and the crown is so dense that it almost hides the mountain behind it.
What the picture shows
The crown is beaded in two colours: a solid white core of tiny blossoms and red clusters along the edges that thin out and turn into falling petals. The trunk and branches are stitched in black and dark grey with pale highlights on the bark. A red sun beaded in a spiral sits in the top right corner and is the brightest point of the work. Fuji, the second mountain and the pagoda roof on the right stay in a grey-and-white watercolour range, mostly as print on the canvas; the beadwork is concentrated on the tree, the sun and the snow around the roots. Red on grey gives that same restrained Japanese contrast. Falling petals are scattered across the whole canvas down to the lower edge, where snow lies and the mist turns white.
