Description

“Kitty” is a cat stretching with an arched back, its long tail curling upwards into a spiral. Three small birds perch on that tail, and the cat watches them with curiosity rather than hunting intent.

What the picture shows

The cat’s silhouette is filled with a mosaic of coloured discs, flowers and swirls — red, turquoise, yellow, green — each element beaded separately, so the body looks assembled from small enamel inlays. The tail and back run as a golden ochre ribbon, and the long white whiskers are worked in even lines of beads. A wide band of ornament made of squares, circles and dots runs along the bottom like a mosaic floor. The dark grey background, with faint printed swirls, is left unstitched, and the colours glow especially brightly against it. Large beads and glass hemispheres give some of the discs extra volume. The birds are tiny, each made of just a few beads, and they are what turns a decorative silhouette into a small story.
