Description

“Golden lights” is a Christmas tree built not from branches but from ornaments: rosettes, snowflakes, candles and round medallions. The words MERRY CHRISTMAS run above it, and a large gold star with a white centre sits on top.

What the picture shows

The background is dark grey, almost graphite, and every ornament glows on it in its own colour: emerald, ruby, lilac, turquoise, gold, silver. The shape of the tree is assembled from dozens of separate mandala-like discs, with red and white candles standing between them. The lettering is beaded in white and gold, the star in gold beads. Thirty-five bead colours together with the microbeads give the fine jewellery-level detail such subjects are stitched for, while the glass hemispheres act as large baubles. The grey background stays as print on the canvas and holds all that colour together. Each medallion can be stitched as a small separate piece and only then assembled into the tree — an easier way not to get lost among the fine details.
