Description

“Azure Grace” shows two deer among round tree crowns against a turquoise sky. The piece is horizontal, decorative and full of colour.

What the picture shows

Two deer stand at the centre, their turquoise bodies covered in fine patterning and their spreading antlers worked in gold; they face one another as if in conversation. Beneath and on either side of them are scattered round crowns on slender pale trunks — orange, copper, turquoise, pink and brown discs stitched in concentric bead circles, so every tree carries its own spiral design. The discs overlap and build a dense wave along the lower edge of the canvas. The background is a turquoise sky with white drifts and stays as print, while the lower part of the piece is darker, with sparse vertical trunks just showing between the crowns. The discs vary in size, from large ones nearly as tall as the crowns to small coin-sized circles, which keeps the composition from turning monotonous.
