Description

“Tropical night” shows branches of tropical ferns and palms against a night sky with a full moon. The mood is warm and cool at once: gold foliage set against the blue water below.

What the picture shows

The composition is narrow and tall. Dense foliage hangs into the frame from the top and the sides: the feathered branches are stitched in long bead rows following each leaflet, so the texture recalls real pinnate leaves catching the light. The palette is mixed — coppery gold and ochre branches sit beside turquoise, mint and pale lilac ones, which creates the sense of moonlight falling on them. A full moon shines at the upper right, worked in silvery beads, while the dark grey sky around it stays as print. The lower third of the piece is blue water scattered with fine pale beads that read as spray and reflections. The beading is not solid: the ground is deliberately left open, and the foliage steps forward because of it. The stems of the branches are stitched as continuous lines, with the leaflets branching off in short angled rows, exactly as on a real fern.
