Description

“New London” is a panorama of London buildings assembled from bright blocks of colour, with the word LONDON along the top.

What the picture shows

The composition is built like a modern poster: the silhouettes of recognisable structures overlap and are filled with flat colour, without half tones. A pointed pale blue skyscraper with spires rises on the right; to its left sit a pink dome with a lantern, orange and yellow towers, and dark red and brown buildings below. In the lower right corner a bridge with cables is drawn as a thin outline. The letters of the word LONDON at the top are each a different colour: pink, blue, yellow, green, orange. The background is white and empty — beads go only on the silhouettes and the lettering, so the blocks of colour read like appliqué on a clean sheet of paper.
