Description

“Night sakura” shows blossoming cherry branches on a black ground, with a silver moon in the upper corner.

What the picture shows

The canvas is narrow and tall, and the branches cross it diagonally from bottom to top. The boughs are laid in thin lines of grey, steel and black beads, and clusters of blossom sit densely along them — pink, lilac, pale blue and white; each flower is built from several beads, so the petals come out rounded. Small petals break away and drift into the dark. At the upper left hangs a round moon, densely stitched in silver beads. Soft pale circles resembling blurred lights are scattered over the background: they stay as print and give the picture depth. The black canvas around them is left bare, which is why the blossom glows as it would in a night garden.
