Description

“Summer-1” shows a bunch of red poppies in a lighthouse-shaped vase, with a lifebuoy and a pink shell lying on the sand beside it.

What the picture shows

The vase is built as a lighthouse: blue and white horizontal stripes, three dark windows one above the other, and a golden rope with a tassel tied round the top. Out of it rises a dense bouquet of large red and orange poppies with black-green centres and green leaves. A red and white lifebuoy and a big pink-lilac shell lie at the base. The background is watercolour: a band of pale blue sky, a blue-turquoise sea with white waves and light sand below. Sea and sky stay as print while the beads carry the poppies, the lighthouse, the buoy and the shell — which is why the objects step forward against the soft background.
