Description

“Royal peacock” shows the bird in profile with its tail spread, set inside a circle; the whole piece keeps to a green and turquoise range.

What the picture shows

The peacock stands on the left, its neck curved in an arch and a crest of fine feathers on its head. The chest and neck are worked in deep blue and violet beads, with gold and emerald beads scattered over the body. The tail opens like a fan to the right and upwards: every feather ends in an eye of concentric blue, green and gold circles. The plumes are laid as separate lines of beads, so the watercolour background shows between them — green, mint and turquoise with soft pale patches. The composition is round, with a clear edge beyond which the canvas stays pale. Beadwork carries the bird and the tail, while the blurred background stays as print.
