Description

“The glitter of the night lights” is a night city on black canvas: skyscraper silhouettes, a thin moon and a scatter of lights spilling downwards.

What the picture shows

The skyline is built from a dozen towers of different heights. The tallest stands at the centre with a spire; lower blocks with flat and stepped roofs stand beside it. The buildings are not filled solid: they are worked in vertical rows of small silver, steel and cool blue beads that read as lit windows. A narrow crescent moon hangs at the upper left, and stars and cross-shaped sparks are scattered across the sky. Towards the bottom the lights thin out and fall away as single dots and long bugle-bead strokes, like a reflection in dark water. The black ground stays as bare canvas — the contrast with it is exactly what gives the whole piece its glitter.
