Description

“Red gold” shows a betta fighting fish in fiery shades, its long fins flying out in every direction.

What the picture shows

The body is densely worked in red and cherry beads, while gold and copper beads are scattered over the back and gills to give the spark of scales. The upper fin is raised and split into strands like tongues of flame; the lower ones fall in long ribbons almost to the bottom of the canvas, and the tail spreads like a fan. The colour runs from deep crimson at the centre to lighter orange at the fin edges. The background is the plain dark grey of the canvas with no detail, which makes the red read all the more vividly. Beadwork covers only the fish, so the finished piece looks like a raised silhouette on matte graphite.
