Description

“Devotion” shows two horses side by side: a white one with a flowing mane in the foreground and a dark, almost black one behind it.

What the picture shows

The white horse turns its head towards the viewer and its mane falls in long strands worked as separate threads of beads — lilac, pink, pale blue, silver and white. The strands hang loose, so the mane comes out rounded and full of movement. The second horse is dark: its mane is laid in black, brown and steel beads, again strand by strand. The two muzzles almost touch, which is where the title comes from. The background is painted in cool washes of greenish grey, turquoise and graphite, like clouds or smoke, with pale sparks scattered across it. That background stays as print while the beadwork runs over the manes, the muzzles and a few accents, so the texture of the strands reads clearly.
