Description

“Peony” is a single large flower in close-up, opened across almost the whole canvas in a warm cream and gold range.

What the picture shows

The petals are painted in soft ochre and beige transitions, and the colour thickens to honey and terracotta at the heart. Here the beads do not cover the flower solidly: they follow the petal contours in pale, pearl and white lines that underline every curve and every wave of the edge. On the left the outlines run more freely, almost like a pencil sketch, and part of the petals stays as print only. The background is even, moving from light beige to warm brown in the upper right corner. Because of this technique the finished work looks delicate and restrained, with the beads acting as light sliding along the petal edges.
