Description

“Summer sketch” shows an open window with mint shutters wrapped in greenery and flowers, and a generous bunch of daisies on the sill.

What the picture shows

The window leaves are painted pale turquoise with the paint worn away in places. Above and around them runs a thick garland of small leaves and pink, white and lilac blossoms that forms an arch. On the sill stands a blue ceramic jug of daisies, small yellow florets and greenery, with a terracotta pot and a glass jar of flowers beside it. Below lies a stack of old books in brown covers, one of them open, and on the right a sheer white curtain falls, worked in pale beads. Warm yellow light shows through the window. The watercolour background stays as print, while the beadwork carries the shutters, the greenery, the bouquet and the curtain.
